    Course overview

The Foundation Science course provides the essential scientific knowledge, skills, and competencies required for successful progression onto Level 3 vocational science courses such as Pearson BTEC AAQs in Applied Science and Medical Science.

The course follows the AQA GCSE Science specification and acts as a foundation year, strengthening students’ understanding of key scientific principles across biology, chemistry and physics.

Alongside theoretical learning, students develop investigative, analytical, and practical laboratory skills while building confidence in scientific literacy and mathematical application.

Through both classroom learning and practical investigation, students gain the knowledge and study skills required to succeed in Level 3 science courses and further technical or vocational pathways.

    Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for students who:

    • Are progressing from GCSEs but do not yet meet Level 3 entry requirements
    • Want to strengthen their understanding of biology, chemistry, and physics
    • Would benefit from developing confidence in practical science and laboratory work
    • Are aiming to progress to Level 3 Applied Science, Medical Science, apprenticeships, or other technical science pathways
