    Course overview

    This one year programme is designed to prepare students who have not yet achieved GCSE Grade 4 in English and or Maths for successful progression onto the AAQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

    Delivered over 12 months, the course is structured into six half term projects, approximately six weeks each, combining academic skill development with practical, employer informed learning.

    Students build core knowledge of the health and social care sector, develop essential English and Maths skills in context, and gain hands on experience through simulated clinical practice using Juno AI and LifeCast Manikin technology.

    Employer engagement, workplace insight and first aid certification are embedded throughout the programme.

    Who is this course for?

    This course is designed for students who:

    • Have not yet achieved Grade 4 in GCSE English and or Maths
    • Aspire to progress onto the AAQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care
    • Are interested in careers in nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, social work, early years or allied health professions
    • Benefit from practical, project based learning
    • Require structured support to develop academic confidence and professional behaviours
    Course content

    The programme is delivered through six projects:

    Project 1

    Introduction to health and social care, including NHS structure, values, communication, and study skills.

    Project 2

    Exploration of roles in the sector with employer input and career research.

    Project 3

    Clinical skills and patient care using simulation, including basic observations.

    Project 4

    First Aid training, including CPR, AED use, and emergency response.

    Project 5

    Safeguarding, equality, and person centred practice through case studies.

    Project 6

    Preparation for Level 3, focusing on research, assignments, and a final project.

    Assessment

    Assessment is continuous and project based and includes:

    • Practical demonstrations, clinical skills and first aid
    • Presentations
    • Written assignments and case studies
    • Reflective journals
    • Employer engagement activities
    • Final synoptic project

    GCSE English and Maths are delivered alongside the programme where required.

    Progression opportunities

    Successful completion enables progression to:

    • AAQ Level 3 Health and Social Care
    • Related Level 3 vocational pathways
    • Apprenticeships in health and care settings

    Long term progression may include university study in nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, social work or allied health professions.
