Sixth Form Careers
UCS is committed to delivering a high-quality careers programme that reflects the QUEST vision of aspiration, opportunity and achievement for all. Through a planned programme of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG), students are supported to recognise their strengths, raise their aspirations and make informed decisions about their future education, training and employment pathways. Our approach is aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks and current Department for Education guidance, ensuring that careers learning is embedded throughout the student journey.
Students are provided with regular opportunities to explore up-to-date Labour Market Information (LMI), helping them understand local, regional and national employment trends, growth sectors and future workforce needs. Careers learning enables students to develop the essential skills valued by employers, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability and digital literacy, while making meaningful links between curriculum subjects and future career opportunities.
Our careers programme includes meaningful encounters with employers, workplace experiences, further and higher education providers, and apprenticeship and technical education pathways. Through independent careers guidance and a broad range of employer and provider engagement activities, students gain the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to make ambitious and well-informed choices about their next steps and future careers.

Many companies do not always ask for your CV as you will add the information on to your application form. However, there are still many companies who do wish to see a CV.

Top Tip: When searching online for CV and cover letter templates, you may notice that many include a space for a photograph.
In the UK, it is not standard practice to include a professional headshot on your CV. This helps employers focus on your skills, qualifications, and experience, and supports fair recruitment practices under the Equality Act.
However, if you are considering working overseas, it is important to research the expectations of that country. In some countries, including a professional photograph on your CV is common and may be expected by employers.
Always check the application requirements for the country and organisation you are applying to before submitting your CV.
